When carpets or rugs have a bad odour about them, it may be time to consider hiring the services of a professional cleaning company that can do a deep steam clean or dry clean. Regular cleaning of carpets and rugs help to minimise dust from collecting in the pile and also help to prevent bacteria from crowing.
Removing Pet Urine Odour
Odours can be caused from not only pet urine, but also from general spills of drinks and food. If a spill is not removed from the carpet, they can start to form bacteria. In our humid weather, the bacteria can start to let of an odour. Thus, it’s important to know how to correctly remove stains and spills from carpets. The best way to do this is by hiring a carpet cleaner with the right equipment and knowledge in removing stains.
Odours, such as dog urine or cat urine, can be very difficult to remove. Specialist cleaning solutions and sanitisers are needed to safely remove the odour. When a pet urinates on carpets, the urine will slowly work its way down into the base of the carpet and then into the underlay. Once this has happened, the affected area will need a solution to be injected into it and left to dwell for about 20 min. This dwell time will allow the solution to kill the bacteria within the urine. Then the urine and the cleaning solution will be extracted from the carpet and the underlay, removing all traces of the stain and smell.
After the offending stain has been successfully removed, the area should then be steam cleaned. It will ensure that not only the base of the carpet and the underlay are cleaned, but also the surface of the carpet. After the cleaning process, a deodoriser would be applied and left to soak into the carpet.
Steam Cleaning to Kill Germs and Bacteria
Steam cleaning is very effective in killing germs and bacteria with carpets, rugs and upholstery. Regular cleaning is advised. It should be done every 12 months. Over this period, a lot of dirt and dust can build up within the carpet.
Having your carpets cleaned every 12 months also helps to remove spills that could become permanent. A permanent stain is when the colour has been stripped out of the carpet by whatever has been spilled there. Most spills can be easily removed by a professional carpet cleaner if done straightaway. So it pays to have the number of a local carpet cleaner on hand for any accidents that may occur around the home.
Stain removal from carpets can be easy if attended to straightaway. Most people leave it too late to try and remove stains, and can end up with a permanent mark. This can also happen with upholstery – the sooner the stain is attended too the better the chances are of fully removing it.
