The best type of carpet will vary depending on the environment that it is to be placed in. This is because the wool carpet takes a lot more care and attention than other materials such as nylon.

Many people think if they have wool carpet laid that they have it for ever and it doesn’t need cleaning; this is not the case. With wool, you need to have it professionally cleaned at least once a year. And in a home or commercial building with high traffic, it should be done twice a year. One customer told us that the company she bought her woollen carpet from said it never needed to be cleaned. This is not very good advice, as the Australian standard is once a year.

To help any carpet last for many years, it’s best to not let anybody walk on the carpet with shoes on. No matter what type of carpet you have, it will deteriorate quicker if shoes are worn on it. Also, removing shoes will mean that there is less chance of permanently staining the carpet from foreign object stuck to shoes.

The carpet in the picture to the right was a wool blend; this carpet had been down for about 6 years before having its first clean by us here at Best 1 Cleaning. It had significant wear through the main walkways, although the customer had never let anyone walk on the carpet with shoes on. But had this carpet had a regular clean by a professional company, it may have worn better, because the grit and dirt deep down in the base would have been removed.
