Removing red wine from cream carpet
Removing red wine from cream carpet
I was called out today to a townhouse in Coorparoo a suburb of Brisbane, now the owner or the tenant of this townhouse was concerned about a red wine spill that they had on the carpet the spill was in the bedroom and it was quite a big area that was effected.
The spill was a whole glass of red wine, what a waste if you asked me and it was also on to cream coloured carpet, now the customer had called up few different carpet cleaning companies in Brisbane and was told that the stain wouldn’t come out. When the customer called us at best one cleaning he asked if we could get the stain out.
Now I asked the customer firstly how long the stain had been in the carpet and what sort of carpet did he think it was?
The customer also told us that it happened about two days ago, and it was a nylon style of carpet, so I said to him I think there’s a good chance that we can get it out but I can’t guarantee it over the phone until I get there and see it, and test a few products on the stain.
So the customer booked us in and I went out to do the clean got to the house check the stain out and told the customer that I think there was a very good chance that I can get the stain out, did he want me to go ahead with it and he agreed yes we would go ahead.
So I firstly set up the machine, now to get this type of stain out you have to have extremely hot water fortunately I was using a truck mounted machine on this particular occasion we do also have portables but in this instance truck mount was better because it generates a lot more heat.
So we got the temperature up to about 160° and then applying the product to an area that was affected in the carpet and extracted it and the stain came out.
So once we have established that we could remove the stain relatively easily we then continued to remove the remainder of the stain and it all came out there was a slight discolouration of the carpet but that was fixed using another product that we carry in our van these products then gets extracted.
These products do have to be extracted they can’t be left in the carpet because over time they will damage the fibres and cause irreparable damaged to the actual carpet so they need to be extracted using a powerful hot water extraction system.
In the video link on this blog you can see the red wine stain that we removed being extracted.
What you need to do with stains on carpet
This customer made our job very easy for one simple reason they did not attempt in any way to try and remove the stain themselves with any cleaning products.
The best thing this customer did was calling us at Best1cleaning and asked for our advice before touching the stain.
Our advice was to not attempt to remove the stain to just keep the area moist by placing a damp towel over the stain; this will help to stop the stain from penetrating into the carpet fibres.
The worst thing you can do when you get a stain on your carpet
So the worst thing anyone can do when they get a Stain of any sort on their carpet is attempt to try and remove it themselves.
In most cases by attempting to remove the stain yourself it just makes the stain worse and rubs it further into the carpet fibres, and this will also start to damage the surface of the carpet, because of the rubbing action that people generally apply to the carpet, giving it a different look to the remainder of the carpet.
The other thing many people make the mistake of when trying to remove a stain from their carpet is they apply household products to the stain, this is the worst thing that can be done to try and remove stains from carpets this is a no-no.
So remember if you get a stain of any type in your carpets the best thing to do is not attempt to remove it yourself, but to call a professional carpet cleaning company to come out and remove it for you.
