Potty Training in Home with Carpet
[separator top=”-55″ bottom=”10″ style=””]Potty training can be nerve wracking at the best of times. There are many different methods for potty training and it’s a matter of trial and error to see what works for you. There is one guarantee when it comes to potty training—accidents.
Try as you might there will be times when said toilet trainee doesn’t make it to the toilet on time, and it may be many times and that’s ok. What can make the process more daunting is carpeting. Polished and vinyl floors are easy enough to clean mistakes but cleaning carpets are another story.
What we recommend at Best 1 Cleaning and Pest Management is keeping products on hand that you can quickly clean accidents up with and then once the training process is done just contact us for a professional cleaning carpets.
If you are unsure about what to spot clean your carpet with during potty training phase, here are some suggestions.
Absorbent paper
Use absorbent paper initially for number 1 accidents. Quickly throwing some of this down on the carpet should soak up a good amount of the liquid then simply dispose of the paper when it has taken its quota.
Baking soda
Baking soda is a cost effective favourite for soaking up liquid from carpets. Simply sprinkle on and leave to soak up and dry out. All you need to do then is give the carpet a good vacuum.
Soda water
Soda water is great for removing stains so if you find you get any stains from number 1 or 2 try cleaning carpets with this.
Baby powder
Generally, if you have young children you will have baby powder on hand. Try sprinkling this on wet spots in the absence of baking soda; allow it to dry and then vacuum.
White vinegar
White vinegar is used for many applications; cleaning up stains and toilet training accidents is one of them. A spray bottle with some water and white vinegar will not only help you clean up hygienically you will also have stain free and fresh smelling carpets.
Wipes
Baby wipes and antibacterial wipes are also great for quick cleanup jobs; just be careful to check what is in the ingredients though; if you use them on your toddler then this should be fine.
Pets
Do be careful if you have pets in the home that they don’t start to think going to the toilet on the carpet is an acceptable practice.
