When a home has a flea problem, the manner in which a pest technician treats the problem is the key to the success of the treatment. The first thing a trained pest technician should do is ask the homeowner where they are being bitten and have an understanding of the situation. Usually around the legs and ankles is a sure sign of a flea problem.

Flea Treatment Process

The first thing should be a pre vacuum of the carpets. This is usually told to the customer before the pest technician arrives to do the treatment. This is important because it firstly helps to disturb the pupa in the carpet. The pupa will emerge into an adult flea searching for a blood meal. When the pest technician arrives, the fleas are active. A spray can be mixed up and applied to the problem areas, giving instant results.

It is important that the customer has an understanding of what they need to do as a back up to the treatment. The pre vacuuming of the carpets and floors is an important step after the treatment to ensure the remainder of the fleas are eliminated. Again, this goes back to the vibrations in the carpet by using a vacuum cleaner. Flea pupae can lay dormant in the carpet for some months in the right conditions.
