Odour Control and Removal from Carpets
Best 1’s Cleaning Method
Removing odours from carpets using a sub-surface extraction tool – this is the method Best 1 Cleaning uses to correctly remove odors from carpets. Bad smells, such as urine, have to be removed properly or the smell will remain.
Not only the extraction method is important, the solution used to break down the bacteria is as well. It is the bacteria that lets of the bad smells, so it’s this that needs to be treated.
Dealing with Pet Urine
Cat or dog urine can seep into the base of the carpet where the fibres attach. This needs to be treated correctly in order to remove the smell. The same goes for the underlay; there is no point in removing the odour from just the surface of the carpet and leaving it in the underlay.
Once the affected area has been found, it needs to be treated with a cleaning solution and an anti-bacterial solution that is injected into the base and underlay of the carpet. This is done with steam and up to 450 psi. The solution is left to sit for about 10 minutes before being extracted.
With cat urine, the cleaning solutions will need to be left for longer in the carpet and the process may need to be repeated 2-3 times to fully remove the odour. In the picture below, an area is being treated for dog urine. The affected area had to be extracted and then flushed 3 times with clean steam to completely remove the smell.
Eliminate Bacteria to Prevent Odour from Coming Back
Odours may sometimes appear to have gone. But once we get some humid weather, the smells can come back. At this point, the only way to remove the bad smell is with a sub-surface extraction by a trained professional. The best type of machine to use is a truck mounted machine for this type of situation because they generate so much heat. The heat also helps to eliminate the smell and kill any bacteria.
The quicker the urine or smell is attended to by a carpet cleaner, the better the chances are of having it removed completely and is less likely to cause any damage to the carpet. The hotter the water used to remove, the better the job will be. Once the process has been done, steam is then applied to the affected area. It should not let of any odour; if it does, then it will need the process repeated.
Spot Stain Removal
For all spot stain removal, it is best left to a professional carpet cleaning company that has the right equipment, or permanent damage can be done to the carpet. Using household detergents is not recommended as they can’t be extracted properly. This will lead to longer term damage to the carpet, and also lead to faster re-soiling because it will leave a sticky residue in the carpet, which will attract dust.
