Keep Your Home Free From Cockroaches

I was called out to do a pest control for cockroaches at a house in Wakerley; this is a suburb in the Brisbane Bayside area.

When the customer contacted us by phone he explained to us that he had a problem with cockroaches throughout the kitchen area.

So we said the best thing to do is for us to come out to the property and have a look at the problem and try and assess where we think that the cockroaches are coming from.

What a pest controller should do upon arrival.

Once we arrived at the property we did a thorough inspection of the house and paid particular attention to the areas that the customer felt they were having the worst problem in.

In this particulars case upon doing the inspection the main problem was with cockroaches throughout the kitchen area, as the customer had already explained to us on the phone.

On further inspection some of the cupboards the back boards of the cupboards were damaged by water and rot, the house was not in the best of condition as far as a hygienic condition goes, and this is the main reason this particular customer was having problems with cockroaches, in fact the problem was so bad it is classed as an infestation.

The poor condition of the kitchen cupboards makes easy access for pests such as cockroaches, and also makes it an easy area for breeding.

The kitchen also had a lot of food crumbs and leftover food on the floor and in the cupboards, this makes for a very good breeding and feeding ground for pests such as cockroaches.

Our treatment for this job.

Once we’ve had a look around and we worked out where we feel the problem is coming from, in this case the cockroaches were harbouring underneath the kitchen cupboards.

The next step is for us is to do the treatment and start to get rid of the cockroaches from the customers home.

We start off with spraying the home paying particular attention to skirting boards and inside cupboards, we also use a dust for hard to reach areas, the products we use are designed to help flush out the cockroaches from where they are harbouring.

In a situation like this it is called and an initial treatment, this will help to flush out and get rid of the cockroaches. Once the treatment has been done it may need a second treatment a few days later, waiting a few days after the initial treatment is allowing for any remaining cockroaches that may still be harbouring in and around the property to be eradicated.

An initial treatment is only used if there is a major problem with a particular pest, but a general treatment by a pest control company is adequate for most homes just wanting a yearly spray done.

So in most cases a second pest control treatment isn’t necessary.

What the customer needs to do next.

After the treatment we did for this customer our advice was for them to give the kitchen area a complete clean down have any open packets of food put into sealed containers and also to repair the damage to the kitchen cupboards.

We also recommended helping prevent this sort of situation occurring again for the customer to ensure that all dishes pots and pans are cleaned and put away after use and not left overnight on bench tops or in the sink.

How to prevent cockroaches from invading your home.

The best thing anyone can do to help prevent cockroaches from harbouring in and around the home, is to keep the kitchen area clean and tidy, and most importantly opened packets of food need to be put into containers and sealed.

If you clean up after yourself it’s a lot easier than trying get rid of cockroaches, at the end of the day cockroaches will only want to harbour where there is easy access to food.

So keep it out of their reach and seal it.
