We are all very busy these days. Most of us have a job to go to and a family to look after. We are all looking for ways to reduce our workload and increase our leisure time.
When a spill stains your lovely couch or new Berber carpet no one likes the expense, time, energy, or possible chemicals that are required to remove them.
This is where the use of a good quality fabric protector will save you time and money.
The trick in selecting which protector should be used for which product will depend on what it is you wish to deflect.
Most people do not realise that there are different various for different jobs.
Here at Best 1 Cleaning and Pest Management we use the best quality products and offer some insights into the variety of protectants that are available on the market.
Various Protectors for Different Jobs
There are three main defenders in the area of fabric protection. They are:
• Colloidal Silica
• Silicones
• Fluorochemicals
The lowest cost product to ensure soil retardation is a Colloidal Silica. This product has been on the market since the 1950s, and is an ace at protecting a carpet from dry soil invasion and is best suited to areas that require constant cleaning.
This product, however, has little defence against moisture (wet soil) or oil based items.
Colloidal Silica can also detract from the lustre of some fabrics.
Water Repellent
All forms of silicone are the best performers for repelling water. They have long been used in the dry cleaning industry and are best used for protecting leather shoes, hats, overcoats or raincoats, tents and umbrellas.
Silicone is also a useful stain repellent, which makes it a cheaper option than the final and best solution which is Fluorochemicals.
Dominating the World of Fabric Protection
Don’t be put off by the name. Fluorochemicals have been around since the 1500s, are safe to use around humans and pets, are non-toxic, and contain no odour, CFCs or solvents.
They are the champion of fabric protectors.
Fabric protection is achieved by reducing the surface energy of the fabric they treat. When applied, an invisible shield is created which repels water, dry, or wet soil and oil.
Your carpets and upholstery will stay fresher for longer and retain their natural colour and lustre, long after this product is applied.
