Breakdown of the Tile and Grout Cleaning Process
Here are some pictures of jobs Best 1 tile and grout cleaning services have done. (see the pictures below). Two of the pictures are of bathroom tiles that were steam cleaned using our high pressure cleaning system. Then there is a picture of a laundry being cleaned and also of lounge room tiles that had red dirt from a new house build all through the grout lines and over the tile surface from the builders. The pictures below show the before and after results. This shows just how much dirt builds up over time.
Applying a Strong Cleaning Solution
First, a strong cleaning solution is applied to the tiles and grout and left to dwell for about 30 minutes. During this time, the grout lines are scrubbed with a specially designed brush shaped in a “V” so that it can get right down into all the areas of the grout.
Once the cleaning solution has had enough time to do its job, we then set up our truck mounted tile cleaning machine. This machine blasts the dirt from the tile and grout using 1200 psi of steam. All the dirty water is extracted into a holding tank inside the van and later disposed of. If you live in a high rise apartment or unit block, we can also use our portable tile cleaning machines.
Sealing Tiles & Grout Lines
Once the tiles have been cleaned in this manner, they can have a sealer applied. Sealers can be applied to polished porcelain and terracotta tiles, as well as to the grout lines. If you have ceramic tiles, these don’t need any sealers applied, but the grout lines can be sealed.
Sealers help prolong the life of tiles and also grout lines. They also stop stains from penetrating into grout and discolouring them. They act the same as a fabric protection that has been applied to upholstery or carpets.
When having your tiles or grout sealed, they must be cleaned thoroughly first. When having colour sealers or clear sealers applied to showers, they must be cleaned twice. First, with an alkaline cleaning solution, then with an acetone. This ensures all the grease and mould are completely removed. If not, then the sealers will not last and will slowly start to peel off.
Hiring a Tile Cleaner
When hiring a tile cleaner, hire the services of a professional who has a lot of experience in this field. Cheap tile and grout cleaning will only end up costing you money. Once the clean is finished and the grout starts to dry out, the grout will come back to its original colour, if done properly. The grout can take some time to dry fully. To aid in the drying process, a blower or air mover can be used. Air movers are used in showers when a colour seal or re-colouring of the grout line is to be done after the steam cleaning.
Mould Inhibitor in Showers
After cleaning the shower, use a mould inhibitor. This is sprayed onto the grout and the tiles and left to dry before the sealers or re-colouring is done. This will give a better defence against mould in the future.
Sanitising Tiles and Grout
Grout can hold all sorts of bacteria. This is because it is a porous material and it absorbs germs and bacteria on a daily basis, especially in bathrooms and toilets. When having your grout cleaning done, hire a professional who will use a product that will kill the bacteria. If not, the mould will soon grow back. Tile and grout cleaning will give a new look and feel to any home.
